A History of Anchorage Movie Theaters with David Reamer

October 3 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Lights! Camera! Spenard “1st” Saturday? Don’t worry, same historically intriguing event, just on the “1st” Saturday this time around.

Join us 10/3, to dive into the intricate & scandalous history of Anchorage movie theaters, with our city’s resident historian David Reamer

This history talk will focus on Anchorage’s movie theaters: the movies being shown, the theater technology, the monopolies, the porn, the art films, the myths, the women wearing men’s clothes, and the evolution from single screens to multiplexes. What is a billiken and why were there so many drive ins–three at one point–in Anchorage, a place with long summer days and cold winter nights? And what was the movie so scandalous that it could not be shown in 1964 Anchorage when kids might be around? Featuring footage from the 1890s through the 2010s. Hosted by your favorite Anchorage historian, David Reamer!

This is a free community event! Tickets will be limited to (2) per person. TICKETS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE AT THE BEAR TOOTH BOX OFFICE!
